France

Overview

France’s healthcare system is a universal plan financed by the government’s national health insurance. This destination spends more than 10 percent of its GDP on healthcare, making it one of the best healthcare systems in the world, according to the World Health Organization. It has a mix of public and private health services and many general physicians working in the private sector, with the government refunding 70 percent of most healthcare costs and 100 percent in cases of costly or long-term ailments.

There are public hospitals, non-profit independent hospitals (linked to the public system), and private for-profit hospitals all contributing to the healthcare ecosystem. France’s position in the MTI is linked to its strength as a traditional tourist hotspot and its profile as a western democracy culturally linked to the United States. Appropriately, its cultural and economic scores are relatively high. It falls near or behind its European peers in medical categories, rankings 14th in Accreditation and 20th in Medical Tourism attraction and infrastructure. All this points to a French profile we already know – a tourist-friendly destination with competent healthcare
