Overview
The Dominican Republic has a three-tier public healthcare system, which guarantees
access to free, socialized care. The private healthcare system perfectly coexists with
the public one, because in the past, the Dominican government only contributed about
one percent of GDP to public healthcare, allowing for private hospitals and clinics to
grow all over the destination. Like nearby Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic’s primary
profile as a medical tourism destination is a place where Americans can go for
inexpensive outpatient work. The term “Plastic Surgery Tourism” has specifically been
used to describe the Dominican Republic. It does attract some traffic from the
Caribbean, as some of its island peers focus on traditional tourism.
Dominican Republic – it ranks 9th in Medical Tourism and 40th in Facilities.
